The learning curve is exactly what my mentor said when I started, but I am not intimidated by it. I am absorbing everything I can! We had a great session, talked a lot about upcoming projects and things he would have me be really hands on with. The thing I like about Annex is that they are small, but still have the full recources and knowledge of bigger studios, so that I still get the one on one attention I seek for.
It was awesome going over cables because he took apart an XLR cable and I got to physically see what was inside. He in passionate in audio engineering on a physics level and I feel that my education is highly benefitted from it. I fully understand these complex theories, we will often go over things in a lot more depth than what is in the curriculum. I had a lot of questions about cables and he pulled up diagrams of what exactly was going on, especially grounding! I am so fascinated and astounded every time he expounds on something I am familiar with. It makes me have a lot more appreciation for the technology and hardware we are using and love the complexity of what I had perceived as simple.
Learning about the patchbay in the curriculum was a little confusing, but when you're in the studio learning it from a professional Audio Engineer it is much different. I am finding this to be the case with most things. I am excited for next week. At the end we touched on the art of auto-tuning which was fascinating to me. He went in and manually drew in the lines for the vocals, while emphasizing the necessity of keeping the human element, we want to showcase a performance, not box it in. Excited to dip my hands in next time!
