Week 4 @ Freq Lab Posted on 2013-02-08 by Clint Badal

Week 4 at Freq Lab was awesome! On my lesson day, Zack brought out his microphones and explained the different types of microphones (Dynamic, condenser, ribbon), their different pickup patterns and gave an explanation of how each mic is used on what instrument…. I do wish lesson days were longer, but hey, nothing is perfect I guess. My intern day was pretty cool too. Nothing beats being in the studio for 8 hours. There was a mixing session booked and the guy who came in was pretty cool. He made house music. He brought in a couple of his beats to mix, and man it sounded great after putting through the SSL 9064J console. After the session was done with, there was an annoying buzz sound coming from the monitors. What Brian (Zack's business partner) did was cut an instrument cable to get the copper and connect the instrument cable to the monitors and where all the other wires were connected… again, I don't know if I'm explaining this correctly, but pretty much there was not enough ground, but the problem was fixed. I was in shock how he knew what to do, but then again he's a sound engineer. Pretty successful week, looking forward to next week.
