Major: Sound Engineering

I have been enveloped and inspired by music since I was little. My parents both enjoyed listening to music. Each of their tastes were very different. So from the beginning I received a diverse education in music. My mother liked artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, and Eliza Gilkyson. She liked the soundtracks from ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’. My father listened to a wide range of music, anything and everything Classic Jazz/Jazz, Classic Rock/Rock and R&B. As a little kid my favorite band was the Parachute Express, though growing up I listened more and more to Classical, Pop, and Jazz music.

I found my love for sound production years later when I was in High School. I volunteered with NOW (Network of Wisdoms) Production, based in LA. At first I helped set up a Hotel Ball Room for a live webcast and concert. I was also in charge of setting the handheld radios to the correct frequency and station for those who wanted to listen to the webcast through headphones. After a few years of doing this, they assigned me to assist on the soundboard. This was the first time I ever touched a fader, or an EQ knob. It was my first taste of audio engineering and I fell in love with it!

In my senior year of High School I reconnected with Christian Jardine. He was an old friend from Junior High. It was through him that my interest in music began to grow past just Classical, Jazz, Pop, and a little bit of Rock. I discovered Alternative, Rap, Country, and Electronic music.

In December 2009, I started the Sound Arts program at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts. In 2011 I left the school since I ran out of funds to attend. While I was there, I took Basic Recording, Studio Maintenance, Computer Music Production, Media, Sound, Visual, World Media, and Beginning Music Theory. I learned a lot and I was looking forward to applying it to another program so I could continue my dream of becoming a sound engineer.

In 2012 I found the Recording Connection. After researching about the program, I knew it was for me. It was an in-studio certification program that would give me real world experience. This was what I had been looking for, for a while at that point. It’s now March of 2013 and I am finally enrolled in the Recording Connection, and I have been placed with a mentor, Zack Phillips, with whom I am working with at his recording studio, Freq Lab Recording in San Francisco, CA.
