First Studio Session - 28th March 2013 Posted on 2013-03-30 by Danielle Jardine

Thursday the 28th was my first session in the studio. I got their early since I've always been told that "being early is on time, being on time is late, being late is fired." so to always show up at least 5 minutes early. I was working with Brian on Thursday and he was mixing a clients song for their album. After being introduced to the client we all sat down and Brian started talking to the client about the piece of music; how he wanted it layered, what he wanted the outcome to be, was there anything specific he had envisioned this piece sounding like?

I felt a bet useless since there was nothing for me to do. It was cool to hear the different layers of the song come together to start to fill out the piece. The artist had used a lot of MP3's so there were a lot of frequencies that shouldn't have been there that Brian couldn't do anything about. The artist also recorded the lead guitar and vocals (which have the same melody) on one track so Brian couldn't bring one or the other forward into the mix or EQ them separately which i found to be an interesting choice on the artist part.

It was a good day over all. I found that as the session went on I was remembering a lot of what to do while mixing and could start to understand what Brian was doing and why.

I am finishing up my reading for Monday's class and am looking forward to what this course holds. :)
