Twelfth Lesson Posted on 2015-06-13 by Nicolas Anderson

& now we begin the more advanced ciriculum: Mix Theory.  In this chapter, we learned about how to mix a song & had a mix assignent along with it.  The most prominant asspect of mix theory is balance.  We use a lot of tools to accomplish that: levles, panning, equalization, dynamics processing, effect processing, automation, bouncing; even mundane things like file organization & listening to the song are very important.  We also went over how to create a rough mix for the mastering engineer.

I really liked this chapter because for the first time, they actually showed how a song (or album) gets written, recorded, & released.  Honestly, it's not common knowledge how the music industry works & that is part of the reason it's maintained it's glamour over the years.  It's so easy for people to love or hate an artist, so few of us see the talent in those guys behind the scenes, all the effort they put in, the innovation on their end.  I want so baddly to be one of those guys, who work behind the scenes, I want t be able to say, "Yah, I recorded that."  Going along with that, for the mix assignment, I was lucky enough to put together a rough mix of a song by my favorite classical composer, Vivaldi.  His song Domine Fili Ugenite, performed by the Monterey Choral Society; I don't mean to brag, but I think it came out freaking amazing!  lol.  Till next time.
