Automation, I'll admit is something that I have not used that much only for the fact that I find it a hassle to use, but it is a thing that I want to use much more prevalently, because it has so many uses. My mentors are in the mind set that the less you have to alter the original product the better it will be. Even things like automation when used too much add noise to the finished product. This being said automation is extremely useful for creative, and even sonic purposes. it has many uses that range from the track volume level to amount of compression or reverb at any given moment. For any alteration to the original file it is better to only use as much as you have to, this includes automation.
