Digital Audio should win an award for "Most Acronyms in a single Chapter." I never thought you could find so many of them in one place. This is a subject that fascinates me in terms of how fast and exponential the rate of advancement takes place. Digital audio has only been around for about 70 years! Who would've guessed that you could easily record 32 tracks similtaneously at 24bits/96k if you were from the 1960's? And on your desktop?? I'm always so intrigued by how far it can go. When you think we've tapped into the most advanced something can be, someone always find a new path.
This week in the studio I engineered for a local grunge band in Savannah. I tracked the rhythm guitar, vocals, and lead guitar over two sessions. This was my first real experience working with an artist I wasn't playing for or writing with so it was a trip for me. Being in on the process of the producer working with the band and deciding what to put in or take out, and even learning what to say when to say it is such a benefit. I love the atmosphere of being a part of the process, taking an idea and making it into something real and tangible.
