This was my first real experience where I had to tour a proffesional studio like fastback. even tho I'm a recording artist and have been to a lot of studios, I have never had the opportunity to do a detail tour.
Mark Naron gave me a warmth welcome and we started by going through my chapter one quiz and lesson 1. He was please to know that I have already been understanding some basic sound concepts. He asked me if I had any questions on lesson 1 and I sure did so he answered them and I was satisfied. He then told me that I was lucky to be in the studio on a day when a full band is going to be recording. At this time, the production room was already set up so Mark briefed me how and why the instruments and microphones where set up for better sound quality. We talked about ''phase'' and why microphones were placed at a measured distance of 42 inch to be able to track the instruments. He called the set up a Glend Johns method that was consist of 1 overhead ribon mic, another one on the side and a norman U 87 i on the side too.
I also had the opportunity to sit in the control room /engineering room and Mark asked one of the band menmbers to do a warm up while he track the drums and set levels. We talked about the importance of the phase scope and how loosing phase can affect sound. He advised me not to wear a hat in the control room when mixing because it might affect the frequency. He was wearing one so he took it off. I thought that was really interesting cuz I did not know bout this.
Then it was all over, we talked about our next meeting which is next week and we shook hands and parted.
