As of recent I have been messing a lot with trying to perfect my eq and compression settings for clean crisp vocals.  Ive been mixing one of my friends mixtape and notice a big difference in my monitoring environment at home and at the studio.  My songs will usually sound in two different ball parks.  I recently decided to purchase waves cla2a plugin to compress vocals because I didn’t like the results I was getting with protools stock plugin and other compressors I have tried.  I chose this plugin because it is based on the real la 2a which my mentor has and showed me its revolutionary sound.  By playing with both I see a big difference between the digital plugin and the outboard gear.  The plugin has been doing the job when I am not in the studio it has a much warmer feel than a lot of other compressors I use.  One thing that Ive been focusing on with eq is trying to take the muddiness out of vocals and Ive been recently achieving that by using two different eq plugins.
