Hey! So this week at the studio, I was able to learn more about compression. Things Anthony had told me weeks ago finally made sense this week when we reviewed things. I was able to set up the kick drum and play with it until we got the sound that we both liked. I know I've said it before, but mic placement really is crucial. We got a pretty good kick sound from placing the mic close to the shell, pointing a few inches left of the beater, but then we moved the mic to point straight at the beater, maybe two inches away from the shell, and we got the kick sound we were both looking for. Even without the EQ and compression, the kick sounded really good. Tomorrow, I get to go back and set up for a session on Monday where we're going to have a Texas country band come in and record together. I'm excited to be a part of the process and I'm thankful Anthony is allowing me to come help out:)
