Incredibly Average is a collaboration created by artists Zach Hesemann, Brooks (Dalton Anondson), and David James (me). I’ve known Zach and Dalton since I moved to the Twin Cities in 2012. When I met them, they were in a band called Just For Today that was very successful, but they left because they wanted to pursue different styles of music. With my developing skills in music production, we have joined forces to create something that I believe is going to be an incredibly unique fusion of hip-hop, funk, and EDM.
My role in Incredibly Average is mainly (but not limited to) guitar, keyboard, sound design and production, and some composition. Zach is the main composer, guitar, and does some of the sound design and mixing. Dalton is our singer/rapper/lyricist, and brings a ton of personality since Zach and I are often the more introverted music nerds. We make a great team, and do a great job of motivating one another and staying proactive with all the work that needs to be done.
Regarding my career as a music producer, this endeavor is something I am very grateful for. Zach is a compositional genius, and has several years of experience mixing. Having been in a successful band, Zach and Dalton know what it takes to get somewhere in the music industry. Composing music with these guys will give me a constant stream of music to work on as I improve my skills as an audio engineer. Also, being invested in the band, I am very motivated to go the extra mile in perfecting the mixes, and I have the freedom to put whatever personal touches I want on the tracks. I am excited to develop my mixing style through working with Incredibly Average.
Stay tuned to future blog posts, where I’ll be announcing the songs once they are released as well as my processes for mixing and mastering them.
