Fourteenth studio session Posted on 2015-02-24 by Aaron Matson

This week i went did beat mapping for the band "Led Zeppagain" in the studio with Pro Tools. Michael showed me how to find the spikes in the waveform where the various drums in the kit hit, mainly the kick and snare. One of the more challenging tasks in the studio Michael said he was impressed with my work. I got a lesson on compression/limiting and expanding and was shown the classic NEVE he utilizes on almost every recording. Compression is one of the key elements to a good sounding record Michael said, much more so than time-based effects or even EQ because of the extremely professional sound you get with a good compressor, refraining the audio signal from exceeding or peaking at certain decibels. Im looking forward to doing more work and proving my capabilities in the studio as much as possible.
