We started the session out talking about analog gear and pre-amps.  John want over everything in the console room and any extra gear that he personally brought to the studio.  John then told me about a documentary called Soundcity which is about David Grohl buying an old analog console designed by Neve and used in Soundcity studios.  The Hunts then came in and wanted to add an accordion to a track the previously recorded.  We used a Shure KSM44 to close mic the accordion and another KSM44 in the warehouse with the studio door open.  Then a set of NT5s in the ORTF configuration for overhead/room mics.  The Shure mics went to the Neve 1073DPD and the NT5s to the Avalon AD2022.  John really loved working with The Hunts because they wanted distant miking or room mikes to play prominently in the mix.  John said this is where we as audio engineers really get to flex our muscles.
