In session one with Don Z. at his Inner Ear Sound studio, we went over the basic principles of sound.  Using the term pitch to describe frequency allowed me to finally understand the meaning of pitch.  I enjoyed learning about the tape machine, how it works, and what the tape consists of: small iron particles arranged precisely on mylar.  A standard tape machine can record 24 tracks, and so the two-inch tape is divided up that way.  He had some clear type that they use when splicing which is essentially the tape without the iron-particle processed ono it.  The recording mechanism is essentially a very fast magnetic process, with a tiny magnet for each track.
