My last session I got to mic up the drum kit at Lowtide Studios for a very cool low key session for an artist, Forrest. This dude was very down to earth and hilarious the whole session which made it extra fun to do. Besides that he was very talented as well as a musician /song writer and proceeded to lay down one of the first songs he has ever composed. Jim tracked the session and I helped where I could to keep it flowing, while taking notes on the workflow of Jim. Soo many shortcuuts to learn, but a neccessity in order to become fast and efficient or else you can kill the vibe of any and every session, fasho! Forrest played a beautiful sounding and sexy looking Martin acoustic and he also brought a sweet all wood (maple , who knows?) custom bass that would make any musician green with envy. As Jim tracked guitatr we quickly switched to drums and he banged the hell out dem drums like I haven't seen in awhile and was dope to see his talents on this instrument. Once it was time for vocals, this song, entitled "nobody knows" was breathing a life of its own and was a template for future creative input or inputs. It is always a pleasuure being able to go to the studio while there is an artist in session, to be exposed to the dynamic of the studio engineer and said artist. I've learned alot more I think on that aspect than I thought I would with this exposure which is what you need in this industry I believe to become successful! On to the next one, track on, keep the session ALIVE!
