Week 2 Chapter 2 >In studio with Turner Jackson Posted on 2014-08-01 by Josh Denhardt

Thursday @noon has become the official studio day to be in the studio with my mentor Ryan Conway.  It is great to have a set day/time as my schedule has become very hectic.  Ryan has been extremely cool about everything from the get go.  I have a 2 hr commmute there and back, but there is no doubt I am where I need to be.  We went over the lesson and Ryan made sure I understood everything.  He puts concepts into terms of actual situations that happen as a music engineer. I feel like I am building a good repore with a person who clearly has all the knowledge I will need to learn to be sucessful in the industry.  The man is really good at explaining things several different ways with examples to help paint the picture.  The lesson is still feeling very much like science class but I am understanding how it is important info to grasp.  After the lesson I got to stay for 2 different recording sessions with 2 different client types.  The first was an up and coming MC that Ryan was producing tracks for his solo album.  Real cool kid named Turner Jackson that had some fresh ideas for fun party music.  He told Ryan what kind of style of track he wanted with a couple of examples off YouTube.  I was amazed that within minutes Ryan was building a song from scratch which kept on getting better with each layer he added.  Such a fun session to be apart of.  I learned alot in a short amount of time and was able to take a couple of key things away from it to help with my work flow with writing music.  The second session was just recording vocals over a pre composed R&B track.  The singer that came in to lay down the chorus blew me away with his talent and his professional demeanor.  That track is going to be a hit without a doubt.  Its still stuck in my head.  Bottom line with that session was Ryan's speed manipulating Pro Tools.  Unbelievable!!!   I can't wait til next Thursday...
