Deke LeCompte — Houston Recording Connection
I'm Deke LeCompte, 37, and from a small city called Houma, LA it's just south of the birthplace of Jazz. The earliest memory in my life, sometime in the early 80's was this big foam corduroy chair, wooden spoons, hugh headphones, and rockin out to bands, like Rush, Foreinger, Journey, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Heart, and I could go on. With many different experiences in my life, music, movies, and art have always been there for me. Helping me get through the obstacles of life. After a short stint in the Navy, I came to Houston, to attend the Art Institute for Animation, then changing to multimedia for a better fit. Due to money and other issues, left school for work, got to pay them bills. I've worked many places along the way, a production company, security for big events, security in live venue bars, clubs and hosting Karaoke. The bar industry, has given me opportunities to meet local bands, helping set up and break down, sound checks, running sound, and meeting some great people along the way. Hosting Karaoke has allowed me to survive these past 16 years, and learn a lot about various equipment, and even winning an award for Best Karaoke In Houston in 2005. My musical taste, is literally across the board, Beethoven, Rush, Toni Baxton, Metallica, Billie Holiday, Norah Jones, Eminem, BB King, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., just to name a few. I have learned to appreciate all the genres of music. Although not an instrument musician yet, singing has been my instrument all my life. Having been in various positions throughout the music industry, and how I do have a love for it all. I know that the studio, is where I'll be happiest. One of my favorite sayings is, "If you're not happy doing what you're doing, then what are you doing?" Unfortunately the passing of my grandparents, allows me this privilege to further my education. I've made a promise to them that I would succeed. Moving into this new chapter of my life, there needs to be an "empty cup". Starting with Ernie Wells at Eighth Note Productions via The Recording Connection. My goal is to learn as much as possible, from experience, mentors, industry professionals, and clients. Eventually I would like to work for a studio that handles it all, recording bands, post production, multi-media, gaming, and even live on location recording. I hope that I will be able to produce a product that can help the next generation, like it is helping me.
