Michael McAfeeSan Diego Recording Connection

Major: Audio Engineering

The one constant true love in my life has always been music, whether it be live, recorded, film, radio or television. After my undergraduate journalism years at The University of Arizona I spent many years in the corporate world hopping from job to job. I would save my vacation time every year to tour with an alt-country rock band in which I played bass and guitar. However, when the fun was over I just couldn't wait another year to do it again. After a lengthy conversation with myself and family I decided that it was time to pursue what I have always truly wanted to do in life - work in music. Having grown up playing instruments my entire life I realized that i am most happy when working with music in any shape or form. I enjoy working with musicians and producers most - being in the studio is where I shine best. Enrolling in the Recording Radio Film Connection has been one of the best experiences of my life thus far - and I can't wait to pursue a career in recording, film, and music! Since graduating I have since started my own podcast revolving around the San Diego music scene and have enjoyed surprising success early. I was added to the #1 podcast app for iPhone and Droid - "Stitcher Smart Radio" and cracked the top 100 podcasts within 3 months. I have since interviewed some of San Diego's largest scale bands ranging from Slightly Stoopid to the B-Side Players and cater to musicians that are passing through town on tour. Thus far i've found that podcasting is the perfect fit to keep my protools skills strong while searching for my perfect fit in a career in music!
