After completing the first chapter's reading and quiz, it was time for my first in-studio session at CyberSound Studios in Boston. Since the first chapter was pretty much review and background knowledge, my mentor, Justin Sheriff, jumped right into getting an idea of my home studio situation. I have two condensder microphones: an AKG Perception 120 USB, and a recently purchased MXL 3000 xlr mic. I have pairs of both Audio Technica ATH-M50, as well as Beats Pro (I was advised to only use the Audio Technicas from now on due to their superior sound accuracy). I've been using various versions Adobe Audition on my MacBook for the past few years, and I can't wait to start using Pro Tools! Justin also pointed me in the right direction for buying a good audio interface and pair of monitors. He played sound comparisons of a few different brands/models of studio monitors, which opened my eyes to just how much variation there is in terms of frequency and overall sound quality. I'll definitely be doing a lot more research on monitors before I decide which brand or model will suit my home studio work best (and my bank account!).
