After completing Chapter 4, I resumed my research on which new equipment to by for my home studio. Through Justin's advice and suggestions, I ended up purchasing a pair of Adam Audio F5 near-field studio monitors and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. Due to what I learned in Chapter 4 about cables and connections, I knew that I would also need to buy two cables to connect each monitor to the interface. The Scarlett 2i2 has two 1/4" TRS outputs, and the Adam F5 monitors each have an XLR input. Given what I had just read about these types of balanced input/output connections, I decided to purchase two Mogami 1/4" TRS-to-XLR Male cables. In addition to all of this, I ordered 36" wooden stands for each of the monitors, since placing them on my metal computer desk would generate unwanted vibrations that could negatively affect the accuracy of my mixes. Finally, I bought a silicon keyboard cover for my MacBook that includes all current ProTools shortcuts. A few weeks ago over the phone, my RC counselor Gerald Keys suggested that I create an iLok account and then download "ProTools First" for free so that I can get familiar with the program until I recieve my full copy of ProTools from RC. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to getting all the new equipment that I ordered so I can finally complete my home studio setup!
