Digital Audio Posted on 2014-01-20 by Jonathan Hydock

This week In my session i had the pleasure of not only getting further knowledge on chapter 3 digital audio, but a first hand account of how it all came to life.  My mentor Eric Winbush had wisdom memories and insight  of the progression of the digital age his experience with everything from the first samplers and sequencers to the technological advances of today. He reminded me of the importance of understanding this process and to be an excellent engineer you need to have understand of every intriquet detail even though with the technological advances we may not need to use every detail.  The Nyquist Theorem is an example of how come this knowledge is important in order for the human ear to hear the best quality possible 20/20 so its my my responsibility to make sure everything is right.  Mr. Winbush was describing how back in the day sound engineers would have to calculate the exact amount of space needed for that session and if you did it wrong it would ruin the session and i don't ever want that to happen. Their was so much in this weeks session to address and learn from 8 and 16 bit strings, the binary system in everything is processed digitally the math behind music, how we convert sound into wave players and record and save projects. It is an exciting time to be a sound engineer where the possibilities are endless.
