Getting Connected Posted on 2014-02-08 by Jonathan Hydock

This weeks blog is coming after a two week break my mentor Eric Winbush is on the board and committee for the Grammies, and had to attend them. Having to take a break for that reason is perfectly fine with me thanks to the recording connection I was connected to Dadd's production with a mentor that is the oppitomy of being at the top of his game. Its hard not to connect all of that with this weeks lesson about what else but connections and the importance of understanding how it works especially with when time and money is involved using the wrong cords give you the wrong connection and equals out to a long day in the studio. from the start of the session you need to know what types of cords, wires, and cables our necessary. Mr. Winbush was willing to break down his patch bay to show me how it works and the difference between TRS (tip ring sleeve) and TS (tip Sleeve) XLR cables Rca's with him taking the time to physically show me helped me to comprehend this in ways the book can not which is another example of the importance of connection having the right person to show and teach me how to become a profressional sound engineer by helping me connect all the dots puns intended lol. The importance of truly understanding even the smallest detail of what is needed for professional quality music is vital for a sound engineer to know and comprehend can be intimidating but i feel confident that i am connected to the right path. I still have a long ways to go but i know i am in the right direction and am learning from one of the best.
