Lesson 7

This evening I observed a recording session with a Christian Rap group that Dahl has been working with.  No time was spent working on the mixing console.  Three to four vocalists laid down multiple stacked vocal tracks for three songs.  In order to a achieve such a large sound, vocalists would track a section of a song and then stack a track on top with just key words.  This process allows for the vocals to really punch through the mix and greater impact.  This process requires a lot of control and concentration from the vocalist as they need to perfectly match each previously recorded performance.  There is a level of commitment required by an artist, as well as the engineer, to get things done right.
