Lesson 11 : Introduction to Audio Processing, Getting to know your Plug-Ins
In todays recording industry, it seems conversations will often times lead to a discussion on plug-ins. Whether you are looking to make simple enhancements on a guitar track with reverb, add repeats to specific words in vocal tracks, or completely overhauling drum tracks using triggers, plug-ins are the life blood of the Digital Audio World. It should come as no surprise that many consumers are curious if what the often times hear on a recording can actually be replicated in a live performance. The vast array of plug-ins available to a recording engineer are mind blowing. It is now possible for even the amateur consumer to have virtual state of the art recording components available to them in their home studio or laptop. This great advancement in technology begs the question, is todays music over produced? I think one can walk the line on this topic and while using all these great tools still put out quality material. I think the trick is knowing what your audience is expecting from you, as an artist. The sky is the limit with plug-ins, but knowing the limitations of those plug-ins can really help keep you grounded while mixing a project.
