Lesson 14

Signal processing, software plugins, artificially simulating environments through effects

We studied different types of reverb in this lesson. It was really interesting learning about the different sources of reverb. Hall, chamber, room, live and plate. Plate was the most interesting. Andy showed me his plate reverb and how to use it, and we watched a video on how to make one, and how/why it works. I learned how to make chorus with the right amount of delay, and how to electronically double a track instead of recording the same thing twice. Other effects we covered were flange, echo, chorus. Learning how to change the environment of a track with digital plugins is a lot of fun. I can sit for hours playing around and experimenting with different ways to simulate curtain environments.
