Soldering and Mastering Posted on 2011-12-10 by Bryan Ray

Yesterday, Nick and I soldered some new cables, particularly a few male to male XLR cables for our new EMT 140 plate reverb. I had never soldered before but it was not difficult at all. I got those cables ready to go in no time.

My new solo project is called Lonely Child and Nick gave me a lesson in mastering. I brought in the first single, also called "Lonely Child," and we did a rough master. We sent a bus to the Manley Variable-MU compressor and a few outboard EQ's before routing it back into Pro Tools. The master sounds great and next time, we'll finish it up.

UPDATE (1-8-12): We just got a new sub and two more reference monitors so when the next Lonely Child track is done in the next few weeks, we'll remaster the first track as well so that a) we have some continuity between the two tracks and b) the referencing in the room has vastly improved since we did the first master a month ago.
