After buying those ribbon mics, Rick invited me to bring one back again to test how it sounds within a mix. I got to the studio and one of the people who graduated from the program over a year ago but still helps out with the studio was recording a drop tuned metal song with his baritone guitar and we used nothing but the ribbon mics we had at hand. We didn't start recording until 3:00 though, so in the mean time, we all sat around and goofed off and watched clips from the Sound City doc and the Foo Fighters- Back and Forth doc, seeing how they recorded the albums. I also showed Rick a couple of my favorite Fretted Americana videos. Awesome vintage guitars with the most amazing tones ever, and one of my favorite guitarist- Phil X. It was an all around laid back day at the studio, plenty of fun moments and awesome sounds, as well as bad ones and lots of feedback from the super high gain amp, haha.
