Jeremy DupliseaCalgary Recording Connection

Recording Lab Posted on 2013-09-25 by Jeremy Duplisea

Recently I was able to get into the studio and record a band.  This bands name is The Crooked Art, and the song I record was called " Rain or Shine"

I arrived early to the studio in order to prepare for the day.  Tara and I discussed the mics we were going to use and how the room should be set up.  The band arrived with all there gear and we began the set up process.  An electronic drum kit was used along with bass and electric guitar.  I was able to mic the amps of both bass and guitar and plug the drums direct into the preamp.  I also setup a a vocal scratch track mic, to help in the live off the floor recording. I then set up everything in Protools, naming all tracks and was then ready to record.  We started and recorded 5 tracks live off the floor.  We stopped and let the band listen to the recording and advised us of the mistakes and what needed work.  Next we went ahead a recorded the bass alone, and guitar alone.  After this I mic up a snare and cymbal and recorded some over dubs for the drums.  This went smoothly.  Next we laid down the vocal tracks.  I discussed with the band what they thought of what we record, they were happy, so I broke the room down and put everything back into it proper place.

I am now working on this session, editing, mixing, and adding compression and eq to the tracks.  This will be my project for my final.  Once completed I would like to have this as a radio ready track.  I will complete this mix and upload it onto the site.
