Lesson 15

Today Brad and I had Mike McGuire in the studio. Brad was mastering a few of Mike's tracks. I was able to sit in and see the small tweaks to the tracks that are done at the end.

Brad had mentioned to me that the Mastering of tracks are usually not done with the artist sitting right there for multiple of reasons, however today was an exception because they were on a deadline.  We also took a listen to a few different tracks all produced by different people. We listened to understand the difference between quality of the sound waves.

I handed in my midterm to Brad and we re did a few things. He told me he knew I wasn't going to get a proper sound first try. It was good going through each instrument with him, listening to what I did on my mix compared to Brad's.

After we went through the song again, he then showed me Automation of the tracks, and that is my homework at the moment.

On April 8th, we did stage rigging for the performance of Rain the tribute to The Beatles. It was a good show, I still love live music. This week we will be going to set up and record a 90 instrument symphony at one of the local schools. I'm pretty excited to be able to go on this and learn about properly setting up to record on the road.

At the end of the month we will be doing some work for the Motley Crue concert that will be coming to town.

My strengths this week is my desire to learn. I'm like a sponge when Brad is explaining something to me, or is willing to take me to shows. I want to learn as much as I possibly can, and now that we are able to do more on hands work, I am able to understand more of the things I have just read in the book.

My weakness,  I am not confident in what I hear. I don't know what words to properly use to describe what i'm hearing, or if I hear something that is "off".  I imagine the more I am in the studio and working on hands on assignments I will be able to  feel more confident in what I am doing.
