Both sides of the glass! Posted on 2016-02-26 by Daniel Beck

BEDSIDE STUDIOS, WINNIPEG MANITOBA. WINTER 2015.

A former percussion performance student at Brandon University School of Music, I left performance art to join the field of engineering due to my desire to work with modern music. In doing so i carried over an expanse of musical knowledge to help me achieve my goals of engineering killer tracks. Particularly knowledge in Musical History, Theory, Ear training, Instruction, Performance, Composition, and advanced skills in classical percussion performance. These skills i aquired in Musical school i now consider 100% invaluable to my success nowadays as an engineer. until this point i had built up a belief i had to dedicate myself to being a player or engineer, i never pondered the possibility the skills may tie into eachother through it all and i was capable of being both! Local country artist TERRY CHOKEN, while at BEDSIDE STUDIOS recording his album,  picked up on my musical talent on the drums, as well as my ear and taste behind the computer. he asked me to be apart of his record, on the engineering side and playing side. He enjoyed my work from both sides of the glass, and has now aquired my services for future drumming gigs and albums. Others have since followed suit, and other musicians have found me just as useful and worth aquiring.  I never would have expected to have found my secondary dream of being a player closer to reality working alongside musicians at RRFC rather than it was when i was training solely as a musician at a university institution. I feel in a perfect position to spot opportunities to be a player AND engineer, and the only thing in my way is deciding which i want to dedicate my life to :)
