This week my mentor gave me some Pro Tools projects to mix and put effects on. I learned that when mixing a hip-hop track, sometimes (for certain lines) it may be necessary to have the beat drop out briefly in order to add more potency to the words. The same goes for putting an effect on the rapper's voice (pitch shifting, reverb, delay, etc.). When you put an AudioSuite effect on an audio clip, you are rendering that clip, so it would we wise to copy the clip, create a new track, and paste the clip in the same place as it is in the original track. After you do this, mute the original clip and put the effects on the copy. This way, you will keep the original clip in case you decide later that the effect is unnecessary or needs to be changed.
