New Mix! Posted on 2014-06-25 by Felipe Grisi

Hello everyone!

I would like to post here a new mix of one of my soundtracks! The nice thing about this piece is that it mixes both an orchestra and a band. I even use two basses: a vertical orchestral bass and an electric bass.

To mix it, I started with the band, specifically with the drums. I previous posts, I already told you how I like to mix drums: starting with kicks, then snare, hats, toms and overs. I created an audio bus for the snare mics in order to add a reverb on them. Obviously, I add the same reverb on all snare mics. Then I try to add the bass. This piece had four rhythms guitars (2 doubles). I panned them all the way to the left and to the right. I really like to do that, specially on heavier stuff.

After the band was mixed, I focused on the orchestra. Actually, we don't have the whole orchestra going on. Only brass and strings. So I used an eq on each instrument to place them in a sweet spot inside the spectrum. I also created two audio buses in Logic: one for strings and one for brass so I could control their overall volumes in the mix.

This is actually my second mix for the same piece. I did the first one when I was not an RRf student. And I really like this second one better!! I guess the lessons are good then!

Well, no more talking and let's listen to some music. I hope you enjoy it!
