I am proud to announce that I have offically ended my first week in the Recording Connection program, but most importantly I have started the program which is a huge step into my career! My name is Jose Hernandez and I have been in the music busniess for about 5 years now. I have engineered for alot of local artists and have been in the studio and worked with a couple of industry artists as well. Alothough I have been engineering for a while the Recording Connection program was a program that caught my attention a couple years ago but I never had the time to apply until I finally said enough was enough, I need to get my degree and better yet learn from professional engineers with expereince! The Recording Connection staff really helped me on applying and setting me up with a great mentor. They were very helpful and on top of everything! After I applied the next step was an interview with my mentor. I was introduced to Derek Slap (mentor I was assigned to), who introduced me to his engineer Boo. From the very first day I was completly excited, I got interviewed by Derek and then stayed in the studio with Boo for a while talked about his backround and a little about mine, by the end of the interview Derek advised me that I was excepted! I left the interview more excited then when I came in, it was alot more then expected! Days later I was contacted by the school and was ready to start my first week. First week was great I met with Boo early around 10am and as soon as I walked in we got straight to working, ended up leaving at about 2pm. I learned alot from him this week, for example I've only worked on 2 daws before this week, Protools and Logic , Boo works off Cubase which I have never worked on so it was a new experience for me. Cool thing was, I actually have the Mercury bundle from waves which happened to be the same bundle he's running, so I was firmilar with some of the plugins. My time at the studio was spent learning the new daw, learning about alot of equipment that Boo has in his studio, learning about alot of plugins I was yet to use and watching Boo's approch on mixing a little bit. Over all my first week I felt was a succsess and cant wait for my next leason!
