April 13th( lesson 4/3rd Session) Posted on 2015-04-14 by Joe Kepich

Today's lesson was connectivity. This lesson was pretty short and for the most part, easy to follow. I already had a pretty good idea on the different cables that are used in a studio before this lesson so that made it easier to grasp. Cables like the xlr, 1/4" and the rca im already really familiar with and understand their purpose. Unlike the elco, madi, and the tt cables. Also learned the difference between balanced and unbalanced cables. The TT cable was an interesting learn because it led to the biggest mystery to me in this chapter, the patch bay. Before this lesson I had known about the patch bay but it was confusing and I wasnt entirely sure how one worked. Now, still confusing but I have the basic idea down as to how they work and their importance in a studio. My mentor took Me through a basic set up for a mic on the patch bay and really helped me understand it. Now i just need to get comfortable with it.

After the lesson I was able to sit in on my 3rd studio session. I met a rapper and his producer. They had come in originally to do some clean edits for the radio on one of his tracks. We ended up tweaking some things and adding some vocals on it instead. I was able to see first hand how my mentor set up the patch bay for this session and I must say that it was overwhelming. Also, in a weird way it was motivating because I will stop at nothing to become that fluent with the patch bay.
