April 25th( Chapter 5/ 4th Session) Posted on 2015-04-26 by Joe Kepich

Today we went over Chapter 5 which is all about microphones. The history of them, the different kinds(condenser, dynamic, etc), what the internal mechanics are, and the difference between them.  More and more I realize that this text book shows me things like a microphone which I'm rather familiar with, and ends up making me really appreciate it and how it came to be. From the first telephone to where the technology of the microphone is today. Amazing. Also, much like other chapters, I knew of the existance of condenser and dynamic mics, but this once again really happened me understand the difference between the two. Not only that, but also show me plenty of other types of mic. Like the Riibon mic and the Carbon mic. Which the carbon microphone is old technology therefore no longer used.

Along with Chapter 5 today I had the 4th session I got to sit in on. I met a rapper named Billard. Who, I guess, is a close friend of MGK.  It was about a 2 and a half hour session and man the time flys by. I love every bit about being in the studio. Hard to believe sitting in a room for a lengthy period of time not really doing anything but trying your best to pay attention to every detail the engineer is doing would be so awesome. Billard was different then other artist I've seen in the studio. He knew exactly what he wanted and where he wanted it in the song. Very consistent with cutting vocal tracks as well. In and out of the booth for just about everything he recorded. I feel like that definitely helps the process overall. Needless to say, It was an awesome session and I'm very appreciative that I got to be in there today and experience it.
