My first day in the studio at oranjudio today was great. I felt a little overwhelmed at first, my mentor and I were going over a record. I remember just looking at everything and thinking how much stuff there is for me to learn. Shortly into mine and Joey 's (my mentor) 1 on 1 time he had a session booked with an artist named Holly. She recorded a lullaby named "Shanti" she informed me that it was some type of foreign word for peace. Dwindling in my shyness/nervousness I sat on the couch at first and observed from a distance. My mentor assured me he wouldn't bite and that i could get a little closer so I can see what's going on. The song was about 12-15 minutes long and only one word was said, "Shanti" repetitively. I was beginning to get tired (not bored) due to the lullaby which was actually played longer than 12-15 minutes because of the re-takes we had to do. It had very pretty vocals and the song made me feel relaxed. After my first sit-in session , Joey informed me he had to go attend some business but let me know i could stay and work with his partner Brandon. Brandon also had a session scheduled with an Artist who goes by Kim K. She was there from around 2-6. She was truly remarkable. She had a voice you would never expext out of her, and I'm not sure if she writes her own music but I really liked all the material we worked on. I was surprised when she asked for my input on a couple songs. She was looking for a creative title for one of her songs, and I came up with the title "Sorry Not Sorry" and she liked it and decided to go with that. First day was a success. I'm excited to get back in the studio, and start learning this stuff hands on. Also I am looking forward to more sessions with Kim K and hopefully one day we can collaborate on a song or writing session and build an artist:artist relationship as well as an artist:engineer relationship.
