Lesson 15 Posted on 2014-06-08 by Chase Jowell

In this lesson, we went over time-based effects such as reverbs and delays. Jeff explained that the most practical way to use time-based effects are on aux send tracks, using the track signal sent to the aux and controlling the level of the reverb with the aux track while keeping the volume of the original intact. We looked at the mix I was doing of The Siege and he gave me some pointers on using reverb, saying that while adding verb to a whole drum mix can sound weird and trippy, he usually adds it to just the dry drum mics, usually kick snare and toms, and leaves the overheads the way they are as reverb can dampen the room's tonal qualities. I enjoyed the lesson tremendously.
