In general for guitars if you put the microphone close to the sound hole you will get extra low end. If you place the mics far away from a sound source and want to catch mostly room acoustics instead of direct sound it is called ambient miking. x-y miking is when you place two microphones near the same source and you flip the phase after recording. Decca tree miking is when you use three mics to spread out the jobs and get a wide overall sound.
