So today was my very first lesson at Emprire Studios. I was estatic and ready to get on board. I first went in and saw Rick and all the other students who were already ahead in the program. I was nervous because everyone else had been there for a while and seemed like they knew what to do but I just had to remind myself everyone had a first day as well. First thing I did was gather information on what I needed to download and install Pro Tools. Afterwards I shadowed another student who explained to me how to set up equipment to get input from the musicians, if they were to record, to the console output so you could be able to hear everything through the console. The equipment I saw that was being setup was an amp, microphone, guitar cable, ethernet cable, ethernet powerplay box, and microphone stand. After the equipment was set up, I saw Rick mentoring another student who was ahead in the program and decided to sit back and overlook what they were doing. He mentioned that would be a good idea to oversee what they were doing so I could get a good picture of what I would be doing further ahead in the program.
Afterwards I got my one on one with Rick and we first went over the console and explained to me what it is. Then we went over sound and signal flow. There is a path that sound travels to get from one point to another. Then he explained to me how we can get signal flow from mic to console. When I got the hang of it, he let me practice on the console. The more I did it, the more I understood it and got the hang of it. Lesson 1 was fairly simple and I cant wait for more to come.
