Just got back from a very productive session. Today we recorded vocals, bass, and a couple of guitars both acoustic and electric. I made sure to pay close attention to detail as I witnessed a peer actually producing the session. He was in total control and I know that my time to be in that chair quickly approaches.
Even though this week's focus for me is equalizers, I noticed that during recordings my mentor does not use equalization. He recodrs all the tracks in a flat level, and he does it so that he can add EQ at a later time if desired instead of adding it during the recording and then regretting it at a later time. Howerver, I have aslo learned that an equalizer shouldn't be used to cure bad takes or miking techniques but rather to correct problems that can't be easily fixed on the spot.
