This is a combo blog for chapters 8 & 9 (and should be for 10 but I'll just go ahead and go over a few things I'd gone over with Alex and Pro Tools.
Chapter 8 mainly went over how to obtain my copy of pro tools that recording connection would be sending me, however, I already run a native version of pro tools 12 on my macbook, so Jamal from RRF called me up asking me what else I might want to buy in place of the copy that they were going to provide me. I talked with Alex and I was even thinking myself that I would go ahead and use it on the Slate Digital everyhting annual bundle which includes numerous great mixing and mastering plugins to use in my mixes. So I got that, all I'm waiting for now is for them to reemburse me (since it wasn't through guitar center I had to purchase it initially). Nonetheless it's well worth the money (better yet free since im replacing a 2nd copy of pro tools for it). Then Chapter 9 covered the installation (past that) and the intro to some keyboard shortcuts. I've been using the software since last summer and have for the most part familiarized myself with it, only now it's gone a little more in depth and I've been able to utilize the DAW much easier in some instances. Now it's just down to spending more time on it and getting faster at production on it.
We combined the lesson day for 8 & 9 as well. Alex and I basically set our computers side by side and he assissted me in optimizing my computer best for pro tools for whether I'm tracking or mixing, and many other preferences. Needless to say doing so has helped minimize CPU and system errors while I'm working with playback. Although he's using an HD system and I'm using a native, we were still able to configure a solid amount of settings on my system. Other than that I'm currently working on chapter 10 and have sat in two sessions this week and it's been going. After the next chapter The midterm will be coming up where I'll have to do that in Alex's presence. I'm not that worried about it though. I feel like I'm sitting pretty comfortable at where my knowledge is with everything I've studied up to this point. I'm definitely excited for the 2nd half of this program because it includes much more things I'm not as familiar with as far as setting levels, mixing, automation, etc.
