This was by far the best week I have had in the course. I have been working quite a bit on practicing EQ techniques for various intruments and vocals on the songs I was provided by my mentor. But you may remember from the last blog I wrote that I was asked by one of our soon to be graduates to run his session for his band. I was the lead engineer from set up to tear down. I had Rick as my wing man and he helped with things like getting compression set up for vocals through the outboard gear but I setup the pro tools session, got everything miked and running. We checked signal flow, got a headphone mix and set up a click track and got after it. We were recording from about 12:30 until almost 4. It was an excellent experience and I feel from an engineer stand point I could walk into a studio tomorrow and get a session recorded. The biggest concern for me right now is continuing to practice and improve my producing skills by learning the art of mastering with EQ, Compression, etc..... But I will get there, don't even worry about that. This was the biggest week for me in terms of boosting my confidence in this arena. I am excited to get back behind the board for another session. Hopefully I'll get the chance to run another before I bring in my band to record.
