Another week closer to finishing up this course. This week we had a session with a really good band who had never recorded before. It was awesome to work with them. They were totally open to suggestions and had their songs pretty much perfected. It was nice working with really good musicians but who also were open to ideas to enhance the recording. I acted as assistant to one of our grad students on this session. He was working as lead engineer and I was his right hand where needed. I really enjoy the engineer role. I am still working on getting more proficient and expedient with the producers skills. But while I continue to work on those aspects of my skills, I feel very confident that I could employ my skills as an engineer working in a studio with a producer. Allowing them to listen to the music more intently or even allow a musician who is acting as a producer to be in the studio while I get the tracks recorded.
