Observation on the 12th of this month was pretty cool. First, we got to head into the mastering room. GA Greg, another student and myself headed in to test a mix or two of ours on the monitoring system in there. We first headed in and Greg threw on one or two of his mixes to test. We got to analyze those and then shortly after I was able to throw on one of my mixes. I was actually alone in the room at that time, but just the same, got to analyze one of my songs and find the problematic areas that I felt existed. Hope to get the chance to do this again. After that, Greg came back in and took us up to the Mezz where I was able to play the same track and get a listen on some other speakers. It's great to be able to refrence mixes on a few different sets of good speakers to see how it translates over. After this, he threw on the most recent song he tracked. It was from the nigth before by recording artist Tory Lanez. He was touching up his rough mix that he did on the track and we we're comparing some different reverb options on his vocals. After that we headed back down to the Mastering room where Mark was mastering a song that had just come in from G Unit. It was a song by Young Buck ft. Raekwon. Definitely cool to be able to get first listen and be a part of that final polish on this track, especially for the fact I grew up listening to these guys. Another good day down at ERA.
