This week I got to work on a session setting up for a 7 piece jazz ensemble from Berklee College Of Music. We set the horn section up in the live room with 2 cascade ribbon mics for trombone and tumpet, a sterling ocean way 6050 for sax, and a neumann U87 for flute. We also experimented a little and used a Blue Blueberry vocal mic on an upright bass which ended up sounding fantastic! Drum mics were pretty standard, 2 AKG C414s as overheaads, SM57 on the top of the snare, a Sennheiser MD 441 on the bottom of the snare, MD 421s for the toms, and a BETA52A for the kick. Finally we used a stereo pair of Sennheiser ST69s for miking a grand piano. It was a great learning experience and I can't wait to get more involved!
