Alexandra HaskellDetroit Recording Connection

Hello, Hello!

I'll start with the basics. My name is Alexandra. I'm 22 years old and I, of course, love music.

Now, here are the not-so-basics:

I didn't always know I wanted to make music a career. I had always had the dream that I would to go to college on an athletic scholarship, get a degree and then get a "traditional" job. I made that dream a reality when I accepted a golf scholarship to a Indiana Tech University. I started studying Bio-Medical Engineering and Marketing. My Spring and Fall were full of travel; Kentucky, South Dakota, Illinois, Florida etc. Even though I was playing golf at some of the most beautiful courses in America, I just wasn’t as happy as I thought I’d be. Things perked up after I asked to borrow my roommates guitar. I wanted to learn how to play, come home and show my mom this amazing new skill I picked up! While I was in band, playing percussion, for seven years, I had drifted away from music in my older years, but as soon as I strummed my first chord (G) I was mesmerized by music all over again. I came home, played “Tim McGraw” by Taylor Swift and my mom instantly was struck by the fact that I taught myself how to play in a matter of two weeks.

When I left school, I was lost. I knew that school wasn’t right for me, but I didn’t know what direction to go next. I moved to Philadelphia for a few months and discovered my love for songwriting. I would spend almost every afternoon down by Boat House Row with my Taylor Big Baby and write. To this day, songwriting is my favorite thing to do. When I stumbled across The Recording Connection I instantly thought that this would be a great opportunity. I applied, was accepted and BOOM- I got into a motorcycle accident. My medical bills made it impossible to continue on with the program, but a year later, I applied again and they gave me another opportunity. I can’t wait to use the skills I learn through this experience and pursue my dream of owning my own recording studio and indie record label. I have no doubt that I am going to make this dream happen as well.
