Alexandra HaskellDetroit Recording Connection

Day One. Posted on 2013-03-04 by Alexandra Haskell

Date of Session: March 1st, 2013
Time in: 1:00pm
Time out: 4:00pm
Lesson #: One

I'd been chomping at the bit to get my lessons started. My mentor and I had originally set a date for Wednesday, but as I was leaving to come down, Blizzard 2013 hit and made heading in to the studio impossible. Thankfully, Paul was very cool about it and told me not to risk an accident, so we rescheduled for Friday.

I should note that even after just visiting once, I feel very comfortable in the studio. Everyone I have met so far has been so nice and welcoming. I have yet to be nervous, which is a huge relief since I usually tend to be a worrier. I accredit that to Paul and the rest of the people at Harmonie Park.

After going over my homework for lesson one, we disussed my answers and some topics that the book covered and then jumped over to the DAW. Paul asked me some questions about my previous music experiences and gave me a quick rundown of the programs we'd be using and the very basics of the job. His style is fast paced, but he always makes sure that I'm up to speed and understand the topics.

I was lucky enough to be there when a gentelman came in to do some recording. I got to sit in on a vocal session my first day. I was more than excited. I am a huge observational learner and there was pleanty to observe. I got to see Paul use the equiptment. I got to see how to interact with clients in different situations. I got to meet very cool people. I got a front row seat to the inner workings of the studio and I loved it.

This session only reaffirmed why I want to be apart of this business. I am deffinetly looking forward to my next lesson.
