Jared MarisHonolulu Recording Connection

Long time no see Posted on 2017-04-27 by Jared Maris

I have been lacking on my blog posts. "Blogging" is not my forte but there is a journalistic aspect that I should be considering. I have mixed a few songs now for school and really learned a lot about mixing. Mixing, although highly artistic, has a lot of unspoken but audable rules that should be broken only artistically. As I mixed these songs I had the opportunity to learn a lot about protools plugins and was able to make errors out of client view because these were not client based mixes. I was able to take time and really learn and grow form mixes that I did. Mixing has become like painting for me. In the studio I have coproduced 2 full albumbs and a number of songs from various artists and genres. Of all the chapters in the Basic Audio Engeneering course I think the most important princaple is tracking. There is more to tracking than hitting record, tracking is where a majority of production should happen. Tracking is the starting point of a song or albums potential, if you shoot for the stars but are tracking from earth you may not make it that far, but if you shoot for the stars and track on the moon your chances of making it increase. As I track I make sure I listen clostly to the music, and not just recreationally but seriously and critically. It is my job as the engeneer in charge of tracking to set that base line. If a great singer needs a ton of autotune then the tracking was not done right in my opinion, anyway im  getting on a tangent.
