In two months it will be my first full year as an audio engineering aprentace and I must say I love it. I have been the engineer on an album by a group called You and I , The Aldo Rays, Nothin Yet, and I am currently working on 3 other albums that I dont remember the band name. I have recorded and mixed vocals, drums, achoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, and keyboards. When I record drums I have a very specific tecneque as to how I mic the drum kit. I mic an electric quitar via the amp not a DI box. I use an sm57 dynamic mic on one cone and a sennheiser e606 dynamic mic for the other cone. When I track achoustic guitars I do a spaced pair micing tecneque with our phantom powered condencer mics and I also use a room mic. I usually do a DI on the bass, but it depends on the song. Vocals are always done in the booth, I enjoy vocal sessions most of all. I have worked with several hip hop artists and those sessions are primarily vocals. I have learned many excilent mixing techneques form my mentor as well as from the school. I feel confident in my future as an audio engineer.
