Music is My Life Posted on 2016-10-28 by Jolleen Sogioka

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that I wanted  to somehow make music a part of my daily life in some fashion or another. I would sing at every opportunity that I was afforded; to include while I was doing housework, or even in the shower. I would perform in competitions for talent shows, school events and anything else that I could make work. I had wanted to have the chance to make music for a living but I was always discouraged by the idea that I could never really make it as an artist because the industry was so tough to break into. Little did I know what other opportunities would come my way as I continued to press on, doing other things as I got older to pay the bills and just praying to find a way to be able to share my musical talents and abilities with the world.

I had always wanted to play the guitar, as all the men on my dad's side of the family were guitar players and also because my favorite sound in the world happens to be the sound of an acoustic guitar as each string is plucked and that crisp note rings out into the air next to a camp fire on a cool fall evening while everoyone listens and some sing along to the tune. I was  never allowed to play as a child because my brother had been playing for a while and my grandmother didn't want me to take away his spotlight in this area. So, I never learned as a child. It wasn't until about 4 or 5 years ago that I was able to pick one up and convince my dad to teach me how to play. I was writing my own songs already and I didn't have a way to put them to a melody, so my dad was very instrumental in helping me get started. I'm still not the best but I'm getting better with time and practice.

Recording Connection has truly offered me the chance of a lifetime. Not only am I able to work with other artists to help create something amazing, but I also have the chance to make more of a name for myself as an Audio Engineer/Future Producer as well as having the chance to make my own music and maybe make something of myself in that way. This was truly one of the best decisions that I ever made. While some of the material is a little confusing at first, with time and work I am getting to where I need to be in order to make my dreams become a reality. I can't wait to see what God has in store for me through this program.

The Struggle is RealPosted by Jolleen Sogioka on 2017-02-21

So what happens when you're having the worst two weeks of your life and nothing seems to be going your way? What do you do when life is trying to push you away from your dream? You PUSH BACK!   Not only did I get horribly sick and had to stay away from all humans for about a week, but then yesterday, right in front of the Studio Building, I got T-boned on my way in to help my mentor with a session...
